Introduction

Oversees the hiring process for all ASUW Employees hired by the Board of Directors. Supervises ASUW employees, chairs the ASUW Personnel Committee, and deals with all personnel matters.

The current ASUW Personnel Director is Jon Solomon

Job Description

1. Serve as an ex-officio member of the Board of Directors without vote.
2. Responsible for learning job in the Spring before being hired, will take office with the incoming Board of Directors in the summer.
3. Review and update the ASUW Personnel Policy as needed in accordance with the ASUW Personnel Policy, Executive Order 50, University Affirmative Action Policy and other applicable University and ASUW polices.
4. Serve as chair of the ASUW Personnel Committee.
5. Establish interviewing subcommittees of the Personnel Committee as needed in accordance with ASUW Personnel Policy.
6. Maintain and order supplies and postage for the office as well as oversee distribution of supplies.
7. Monitor and maintain the long distance, fax logs, and office printing.
8. Responsible for training office support staff.
9. Work with the Publicity and Programming Committee to direct the advertising and recruitment of students to fill all vacant ASUW positions under his/her responsibility.
10. Maintain files of all students applying for paid positions appointed by the AUSW Board of Directors, including names, addresses, and phone numbers.
11. Prepare and submit recommendations from the interviewing subcommittee of the Personnel Committee to ASUW President and Board of Directors (BOD).
12. Obtain letters of agreement signed by all AUSW paid personnel specifying conditions of employment.
13. Inform all hourly personnel of the University records to be processed with the Student Activities Office.
14. Meet with ASUW employees as necessary to ensure positive communication with all entities.
15. Advise the Board of Directors on procedures and policies covering AUSW paid positions.
16. Verify that all individuals holding the AUSW paid positions are undergraduate students with at least six credit hours or graduate students with at least six credit hours or graduate students with at least four credit hours (Executive Order Fifty, Section 2). This inquiry must be made during the third week of each quarter, and the results related to the Board of Directors that the regularly scheduled meetings.
17. Complete a Personnel quarterly report for the Fall and Winter Quarters and submit it to the ASUW President no later than the second week of the following quarter.
18. Attend weekly BOD Executive Committee meetings.
19. Complete projects as directed by the President.
20. Initiate personnel related projects as needed.
21. Ensure that the Board of Directors are fulfilling job responsibilities, and, if necessary, make recommendations for disciplinary action to the BOD for non-fulfillment of duties.
22. Ensure that the Board of Directors are fulfilling office hours, and, if necessary, make recommendations for disciplinary action to the BOD for non-fulfillment of office hours.
23. Attend all regularly scheduled Board of Directors meetings and special Board of Directors meetings unless officially excused by the President.
24. Maintain accountability for 25 office hours per week, including 18.75 scheduled office hours during which time the Personnel Director’s activities and/or whereabouts are known to the front office staff; (meetings and appointments may be scheduled during this time); the remaining hours shall be utilized to complete projects, schedule meetings and appointments, or otherwise facilitate the work of the ASUW. A schedule of these hours shall be submitted to the Director of Personnel by the first week of each quarter.
25. Review ASUW job descriptions and pay rates as nece3ssary, and, in conjunction with the Personnel Committee, make recommendations regarding such to the ASUW Board of Directors.
26. Attend ASUW mandatory training sessions including but not limited to the ASUW Fall orientation.

B. Ability to work independently and initiate projects when necessary.

C. Ability to work under stress.

D. Supervisory experience required.

E. Strong written and oral communication skills.

F. Ability to recruit and work with volunteers.

G. Ability to work effectively with people of diverse backgrounds.

H. Knowledge of ASUW policies.

I. Demonstrated leadership ability.

J. Strong knowledge of parliamentary procedures.

K. Must be a UW student in at least 6 credits for an undergraduate, 4 for a graduate, or on leave as defined by Executive Order 50.

ARTICLE I, SECTION IV


The Personnel Director shall:

A. Serve as an ex-officio member of the Board of Directors without vote, and shall be hired by the BOD through the Personnel hiring process. This person shall take office with the incoming BOD but shall be responsible for learning the position over Spring Quarter;

B. Maintain a personnel policy for the ASUW in accordance with Executive Order Fifty and other applicable University and ASUW policies;

C. Serve as Chair of the Personnel Committee;

D. Chair, or appoint members of the Personnel Committee to chair the interviewing subcommittees of the Personnel Committee;

E. Direct the advertising and recruitment of students to fill all vacant ASUW paid positions appointed by the Board of Directors;

F. Coordinate with the Director of Diversity Efforts to recruit diverse applicant pools for all paid positions

G. Maintain files of all students applying for ASUW Board of Directors appointed paid positions, including names, addresses, and phone numbers;

H. Prepare and submit recommendations for appointment to the Board of Directors from the interviewing subcommittee of the Personnel Committee;

I. Draft letters of agreement with all ASUW paid personnel specifying conditions of employment;

J. Inform all hourly personnel of the University records to be processed with the Student Activities Office;

K. Advise the Board of Directors on procedures and policies covering ASUW paid positions;

L. Determine with the Registrar's Office that all individuals holding ASUW paid positions are undergraduate students with at least six credit hours or graduate students with at least four credit hours (Executive Order Fifty, § 2), to make this inquiry during the third week of each quarter, and to relate the results of this inquiry to the Board of Directors at the regularly scheduled meetings during the fourth week, respectively;

M. Complete a quarterly report for the Fall and Winter Quarters and submit it to the ASUW President no later than the second week of the following quarter;

N. Shall meet with the ASUW Vice-President to establish the open-selection process at the beginning of Fall Quarter to be approved by the Board of Directors by the end of the second week of Fall Quarter;

O. Complete initiated projects as directed by the President;

P. Initiate projects as necessary;

Q. Ensure that the President is fulfilling job responsibilities, and, if necessary, make recommendations for disciplinary action to the Board of Directors for non-fulfillment of duties;

R. Attend all regularly scheduled Board of Directors meetings and special Board of Directors meetings unless officially excused by the President;

S. Maintain accountability for twenty-five office hours per week, including twenty scheduled office hours during which time the Personnel Director’s activities and/or whereabouts are known to the front office staff; (meetings and appointments may be scheduled during this time). The remaining five hours shall be utilized to complete projects, schedule meetings and appointments, or otherwise facilitate the work of the ASUW. A schedule of these hours shall be submitted to the ASUW President by the first week of each quarter; and

T. Shall meet with the ASUW Vice President at the beginning of each quarter to establish the responsibilities and allocation of their Administrative Assistant for that respective quarter. This shall be submitted for approval to the President no later than the second week of each quarter.
