As part of the Associated Students of the University of Washington, the Asian Student Commission (ASC) serves to promote Asian cultural awareness on the University of Washington campus, for all students. The Commission is a representative of the voices and issues surrounding the University’s Asian and Asian-American community. Throughout the academic school year, ASC is involved in fostering social, political, as well as community activities.
ASC also serves as the overseeing umbrella organization, helping unite the many diverse Asian associations on campus. Bi-weekly meetings are facilitated to help inform associations of beneficial resources, coordinate and announce events between associations and ASC, connect associations to campus policies and programs, as well as allowing groups to be able to gather a consensus vote on issues surrounding the Asian community.
Each year ASC creates programs for the entire campus community to enjoy and embrace ranging from: Quarterly newsletters, The Annual ASC Cultural/Talent Show in Winter, in addition to a series of spectacular events in Spring quarter celebrating Asian Pacific American Heritage Month (May), including the Annual Asian food festival (Bite of Asia), APIA Networking Night, and much more.

The Asian Student Commission was founded in 1988 as an organization that would serve to promote Asian cultural awareness on the University of Washinton campus, for all students. The Commission is a representative of the voices and issues surrounding the University’s Asian community, which as of 2007 has reached nearly 20,000 students. Throughout the academic school year ASC is involved in fostering social, political, as well as community activities.
ASC also serves as the overseeing umbrella organization, helping unite the many diverse Asian associations on campus. Bi-weekly meetings are facilitated to help inform associations of beneficial resources, coordinate and announce events between associations and ASC, connect associations to campus policies and programs, help foster the growth of new Asian organizations, as well as allow groups to gather a consensus vote on issues surrounding the Asian community.
Each year ASC creates programs for both the University and community at large to enjoy, embrace, and become aware of all Asian cultures. These range from events such as the student organization mixers, Fried Rice Fair, Annual ASC Talent Showcase, Bite of Asia, and Sports Day. In addition, events from all constituent organizations held during Asian Pacfic American Heritage Month are also recognized and promoted. These emcompass events such as Professional Night, Film Night, Sports Day, Art Gallery Display, High School Outreach, Diversity Speaker, Cultural Museum field trip, Community Volunteer Day, Be A Tutor, and more. Look for flyers around campus and join the ASC Facebook group to be kept in the loop. Check the website constantly as there are always new updates and events pertaining to organizations all around campus.
