Help:Asuw Namespace

These help pages were copied and then adapted with permission from the main help pages at MediaWiki. If you notice something missing please feel free to e-mail the ASUW Tech for assistance or, if you feel up to it, add it yourself.

In addition to the default namespaces an additional namespace has been created for use on this wiki: Asuw.

What is special about the Asuw namespace

The main thing that is special about the Asuw namespace is that only ASUW employees can do anything with these pages, including reading. This makes them very important because you can use this wiki as a living document that has specifics about your job, even things that should not be in the public domain, so that they can be passed on to the next person that holds your position. This is called an institutional memory and it is something that the ASUW has been sorely lacking up until now.

If you have trouble accessing documents in the Asuw namespace, and you think you should have access, check the following things in order:

  1. Make sure you are logged in. Your UWNetID should be shown at the top.
    • If you aren't then click log in and try again.
  2. Make sure that you are logged in with your work UWNetID and not your personal one.
    • If you are logged in with your personal UWNetID then quit your web browser and reopen it.
  3. Try connecting to this protected page Asuw:Sandbox. If you are able to connect there may be a problem with the page you are trying to edit, not your access.
  4. If all of the above fails, you may not be explicitly listed as part of the Asuw group. Send a message to the ASUW Tech and request that you be added to the Asuw group. In the e-mail message make sure you are either sending it from your work account or include your work UWNetID.

How to use the Asuw namespace

Creating a page or linking to a page in the Asuw namespace is really very easy. The only difference is that the page you are linking to will start with Asuw: (A-s-u-w-[colon]), such as Asuw:Sandbox. Note the capitalization of Asuw, it matters. As long as you keep that little caveat in mind you can be on your way to creating internal documents immediately.
