The OGR Legislative Programming Coordinator is the primary ASUW legislative event planner, who chairs the Legislative Planning Committee and is a member of the staff of the Office of Government Relations.
Historically, the ASUW Office of Government Relations has run one large-scale event: Lobby Day. In 2005-2006, OGR decided to add a new event, called the Legislative Pre-Session Reception. OGR is also frequently involved with a spring event, sometimes in coordination with College Civics Week, and voter registration in the fall quarter.
Legislative Pre-Session Reception
Beginning in 2005, this event brought together student leaders and members of the administration and faculty, and invited members of the Washington State Legislature to campus to meet with them. A dinner and round-table discussions allowed legislators to come to campus and see what students felt, prior to the beginning of the Legislative Session in January.
Lobby Day is usually held in February and consists of UW students traveling to Olympia to lobby on behalf of ASUW and the Legislative Agenda.
Chair of LPC
The Coordinator is the Chair of the Legislative Planning Committee (LPC) which serves to provide the OGR and Legislative Coordinator with aid in planning and executing the events they run over the course of the year. Activities which LPC helps plan and execute include the Pre-Session Reception, Lobby Day, voter registration, and other legislative or political events that students may desire to host.
The OGR Legislative Coordinator used to chair the Legislative Steering Committee. In Spring 2007, the job descriptions for OGR positions were intentionally changed to make the OGR Assistant Director the chair of that committee.
